Ba Dee Ya

You’ve heard the story about songwriter Allee Willis and the time she – while co-writing September with Earth Wind & Fire – flipped her shit on Maurice White because she was in her feelings re: the inclusion of the nonsense lyrics featured in the song (and which are probably playing in your head by now)? I enjoy that story because it worked out that Willis’s fit of fear consciousness created the conditions for White to birth the following philosophical gem:

Never let the lyric get in the way of the groove.”

Give it a go. Let me know…

I’ll refrain from parsing its meaning because you’re all savvy. I do, however, invite you to consciously consider and apply this mantra in practical and metaphorical mediums for the rest of the month to see what it do. Remind yourself to operate from this place of movement and notice the effects it has on your thoughts and actions, and your responses to the actions of others. Does it make you more flexible? More creative? Does it annoy you? Does it make you wanna get back into 70s soul jams?
