I love a good story – always have. Literary since infancy, I could speak and read by ten months old. That’s how the legend goes, anyway. Apparently, my uncle had bought me a copy of A Baby’s Book of Numbers, which I immediately plopped open and babbled through, much to the flabbergastment of my immediate family.
I believe it, not only because I’m acquainted with my beautiful mind but also because mine are the type of people that tend more toward showers of reluctant appreciation rather than praise.
By age ten, I was creating and staging original and classic tales with the inhabitants of my toy box. Picture an all female-version of LoTR featuring Jem, Barbie, She-Ra, and their cohorts. I cast Poochie for Girls, against type, as Sauron.
After studying theatre as an undergrad and earning an MFA in Creative Writing, my loyalty to Narrative remains steadfast. We go together, like Peaches & Herb, ackee & saltfish, and diamonds & pearls (that’s a Prince reference – iykyk).
